If you run a Yamaha outboard, you may have seen the headlines: Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. (YMUS) is consolidating its U.S. headquarters in Kennesaw, Georgia. As a Yamaha Pro Elite Plus dealer, we at Fish Tale Boats want our customers to hear the facts from us, in plain English, along with what this does and does not mean for you.
What Yamaha Announced
On February 26, 2026, Yamaha Motor Co. announced that YMUS will relocate its headquarters functions from Cypress, California to Kennesaw, Georgia. The move will happen function by function, starting at the end of 2026 and continuing through the end of 2028.
Yamaha's U.S. presence in Cypress goes back a long way. The company acquired the land in 1978 and opened its office there in 1979, so it has been a Southern California fixture for roughly 50 years. Yamaha says the change is part of structural reforms to build U.S. profitability amid cost increases from U.S. tariffs and changing market conditions.
Georgia Is Not New Territory for Yamaha Marine
The marine business has already been run from Kennesaw since 1999, and Motorsports followed in 2019. By Yamaha's own description, the Cypress campus has been used mainly for corporate functions and Financial Services. So this move mostly brings the remaining headquarters functions to the place where the marine side of the company already works.
That Georgia campus includes the Yamaha Marine Innovation Center, a 75,280 square foot facility that opened in April 2023. It is home to the Yamaha Marine Connected Division, which works on connected-boat technology such as Siren Marine remote monitoring and DockPoint docking, along with U.S. Marine Development, Product Management and Technical Marketing.
Kennesaw is also where Yamaha runs a training facility for dealership technicians. Technicians attend Service Skills Training (SST), developed by the Yamaha Marine Technical Training Group, as described in this Boating Magazine profile.
What Happens to the California Campus
According to Fox Business, citing the Orange County Business Journal and OC Register, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S. bought the roughly 25-acre Cypress campus at 6555 Katella Ave. for about $115 million. The sale closed September 23, 2026, and Disney plans to use the site for back-of-house operations supporting Disneyland Resort. Yamaha is leasing the campus back through December 31, 2028, which lines up with the end of the relocation timeline.
What It Means for Yamaha Owners in Southwest Florida
For Yamaha owners, day-to-day nothing changes: service, parts and warranty still go through your dealer. Nothing in the announcement changes how your engine is covered or serviced today.
A few things worth noting, framed as simply as we can:
- Same time zone. Kennesaw is on Eastern time, just like Southwest Florida. California is three hours behind, so dealers and Yamaha's corporate teams should have more overlapping hours in the day.
- Closer to the Southeast. Georgia is a much shorter trip to the Southeast than California is, which puts Yamaha's leadership closer to the boating markets we serve.
- Marine already lives there. With the marine business, the Innovation Center and the technician training facility all in Kennesaw, having more of the company in the same place should make it easier for the teams to work together.
Those last points are our read of the situation, not commitments from Yamaha. The relocation rolls out through the end of 2028, and we will pass along anything that affects our customers as we learn it.
