MIASWF / Go Boating Florida

The Charlotte County Boat Show is one of the best boat shows in Southwest Florida, and it's one of our favorites on the calendar. It's big enough to have serious inventory on display, small enough that you won't lose half your day in a parking lot, and close enough to Fort Myers that the drive is easy.

Whether you're shopping for your first boat, upgrading to something bigger, or just want to spend a Saturday looking at boats with a cold drink in hand, here's everything you need to know before you go.

What Is the Charlotte County Boat Show?

The Charlotte County Boat Show has been running for over 25 years, and it's grown into the largest display of boats and marine products in Charlotte County. It's put on by the Marine Industries Association of Southwest Florida, the same folks behind the Bonita Springs Boat Show and other regional events through their Go Boating Florida brand.

This isn't the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. It's not trying to be. What it is, though, is a laid-back, well-organized show that brings together local dealers, marine service providers, and boating enthusiasts in a comfortable setting. The fairgrounds give everyone room to spread out, and the vibe is more "friendly weekend outing" than "fight through crowds in a convention center."

For Charlotte County and northern Lee County boaters, it's the most convenient show of the year. You don't have to drive to Fort Lauderdale or Miami. You don't need to plan a whole trip around it. You just show up, walk the grounds, and spend as much or as little time as you want.

The show brings together dealers from across the region showing everything from bay boats and center consoles to pontoons, skiffs, and offshore fishing machines. You'll also find marine electronics vendors, engine dealers, boat lift companies, and accessory brands filling out the display.

What to Expect

Every boat at the Charlotte County Boat Show is displayed on land at the fairgrounds. That means you can walk around every hull, look at every detail, and take your time without worrying about stepping onto a floating dock.

Here's what you'll find:

Boats of every type and size. Center consoles, dual consoles, bay boats, pontoons, deck boats, offshore fishing boats, flats boats, and more. You'll see boats from a range of dealers and manufacturers, all in one place. It's one of the easiest ways to compare models side by side without driving to five different dealerships.

Marine accessories and gear. Electronics companies showing the latest fish finders and GPS units. Trolling motor brands. Boat lift manufacturers (important if you're buying waterfront property in Charlotte County). Marine audio, lighting, and rigging companies.

Service providers. Marine insurance, boat financing companies, and maintenance providers are usually set up at the show. This is actually a smart use of your time. You can talk to insurance agents about coverage, get financing questions answered, and learn about local service options all in one stop.

Local flavor. This is a community show. You'll bump into people you know, meet local captains, and get a feel for the Charlotte County boating scene. There's food and drinks available on-site, so you won't go hungry.

Getting There

The Charlotte County Fairgrounds sit right off El Jobean Road (CR 776) in Port Charlotte. It's easy to find and well-signed during show week.

From Fort Myers: Head north on I-75 and take Exit 170 (Kings Highway / CR 769). Go west on Kings Highway, then north on US 41. Turn left on El Jobean Rd (CR 776) and the fairgrounds will be on your left. Total drive time is about 45 minutes, give or take, depending on traffic and where in Fort Myers you're starting from.

From Naples: Take I-75 north past Fort Myers. Same exit, Exit 170. Figure about an hour, depending on traffic.

From Bonita Springs: You're looking at roughly 50-55 minutes heading north on I-75.

Parking is available at the fairgrounds. During busy show days (Saturday is usually the biggest), arrive earlier in the day if you want a closer spot. The lot can fill up by midday on peak days, but the fairgrounds property has plenty of overflow space.

Pro tip: Thursday and Friday mornings are the quietest times. If you're serious about shopping and want to spend quality time talking to dealers without feeling rushed, that's when to go.

Tips for Visiting the Charlotte County Boat Show

This is a manageable show. You can realistically see everything in two to three hours, which is part of what makes it great. Here's how to get the most out of your visit.

Come with a plan, but stay flexible. If you're shopping for a specific type of boat, know your general requirements going in: budget range, boat type, primary use. This helps you ask the right questions and skip the stuff that doesn't apply. But leave room to be surprised. Some of the best boat purchases happen when someone sees a model they weren't considering and realizes it's exactly what they need.

Wear comfortable shoes. You'll be walking on fairground surfaces and climbing in and out of boats. Leave the flip-flops at home.

Bring sunscreen and a hat. January in Southwest Florida can still be sunny and warm. The boats are displayed outdoors, and you'll be in the sun for most of your visit.

Ask questions. Dealers at boat shows expect it. This is the one time of year where you can walk up to any boat, climb aboard, and ask the person standing next to it anything you want. Don't be shy. Ask about pricing, options, warranties, delivery timelines, and financing. That's why we're there.

Take photos and notes. After walking through dozens of boats, they start to blend together. Snap pictures of the models you like, grab business cards, and jot down the details that matter to you. It makes the follow-up process a lot easier.

Don't skip the accessories. Even if you already own a boat, the marine gear vendors at the show often run show-only specials on electronics, accessories, and services. It's worth a lap through the non-boat displays.

Bring the family. This show is kid-friendly. The pace is relaxed, there's food on-site, and kids love climbing around boats. If your spouse or partner is part of the buying decision (and they should be), this is a great low-pressure way to look at options together.

Visit Fish Tale Boats at the Show

Fish Tale Boats is a family-owned dealership with locations in Fort Myers, Naples, and Bonita Springs. We've been helping Southwest Florida families get on the water for over 25 years, and the Charlotte County Boat Show is one of our favorite events of the year.

Here's what you'll find at our display:

Top brands, current models. We carry Grady-White, Robalo, Chaparral, and Premier Pontoons. We bring a selection of our most popular models to the show so you can climb aboard, sit at the helm, and see the quality up close. Whether you're looking at a 22-foot Robalo center console for weekend fishing or a Premier tritoon for family cruising, we'll have something worth looking at.

Show pricing. Boat shows are when dealers put their best foot forward on pricing. We bring competitive show specials, package deals, and promotional financing options that you won't find on a random Tuesday. If you've been waiting for the right time to buy, this is it.

Pre-approval on-site. Don't want to wonder if you can afford what you're looking at? Get pre-approved for financing before the show, or talk to our team at the booth. We work with multiple marine lenders to get you the best rate and terms.

Trade-in evaluations. Thinking about upgrading? We can talk through your current boat's trade-in value right at the show. Bring photos or details about your current boat, and we'll give you a realistic number so you know where you stand.

No pressure. We mean that. Our job at the show is to answer your questions, help you compare options, and make sure you have the information you need to make a confident decision, whether that's today or six months from now.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are tickets to the Charlotte County Boat Show? Ticket prices vary by year. Check goboatingflorida.com for current pricing and any early-bird or online ticket discounts. Kids typically get in at a reduced rate or free.

Is the Charlotte County Boat Show indoors or outdoors? It's primarily an outdoor show on the Charlotte County Fairgrounds property. Boats are displayed on land, so you're walking on solid ground, not docks. There are some covered areas, but plan for sun exposure.

Can I buy a boat at the show? Absolutely. Many buyers lock in deals right at the show. Dealers bring show-specific pricing, and you can start the financing and paperwork process on the spot. You can also get pre-approved before the show so you're ready to move if you find the right boat.

What's the best day to go? Thursday and Friday tend to be less crowded, which means more one-on-one time with dealers. Saturday is the busiest day. Sunday is a good option if you like a slightly quieter pace and don't mind the shorter hours (the show closes at 4 PM instead of 5 PM).

Is it worth the drive from Fort Myers? Definitely. It's about 45 minutes from Fort Myers, which is less time than you'd spend driving to a show in Fort Lauderdale or Miami. And the relaxed atmosphere means you'll actually enjoy the experience instead of fighting crowds and traffic all day.
